Julian Silburn started his journey with the didjeridu more than 20 years ago, after an introduction to Aboriginal Didjeridu player Dereck Nannup by Heath Bergerson. It’s been a passion ever since and he has played and taught the didjeridu internationally, while developing his skills by working with Indigenous elders.
Julian started his sound therapy business Sound Alchemy while participating in the NEIS program at Business Foundations. We asked him how the NEIS program had helped his business grow.

What has been the biggest challenge you have had to face in business so far?
Ensuring people are reminded of your products and services in a friendly and professional manner that builds respect and return business.
How did you overcome this challenge?
I found that texting and using Facebook to remind people of Sound Healing sessions was the most effective way of building business as well as providing a consistent high quality service clients could rely upon and to enjoy.
What is the most rewarding aspect of owning your own business?
I am very happy to be self-sufficient financially and do what I love every time I work.
What is the one piece of advice you would give to other new enterprises just starting out?
I would recommend doing extensive market research to create a network of people that are interested in your products and services, then maintain an excellent relationship that benefits their business as much as it benefits yours.
